Basingstoke & Mid Hants and Winchester & District represented Hants & Surrey in the league finals at Ashford on Sunday 6 September, where they were presented with their divisional champions' trophies.

In an exciting Women's final, Winchester & District led the competition after the first few events, but later became involved in a tussle for second, third and fourth places with only a few points ever separating the teams. Eventually they were pleased to finish their Finals debut in a creditable third place.

Meanwhile, in the Men's match, Basingstoke & Mid Hants were missing a few key athletes owing to other commitments and were disappointed to end the day in fifth position.

About the league

Hants and Surrey is one of seven divisions of the Southern Counties Veterans AC Track & Field League. The others are:

• Herts & North Middlesex
• Kent
• Mid London
• South-West London
• Sussex
• Western

Each division stages a series of monthly matches on Monday evenings in April, May, June and July at various venues within its geographic area.  The men's and women's champions of all seven divisions then compete against each other in the League Finals which take place in early September.
